In the heart of the Manche, life is slowly returning to the Blanchelande Abbey thanks to Marine Boutbien and her team. As soon as you step through the door of Saint Nicolas, time seems to stand still. On your left, the former stables have been transformed into 10 simple, elegant rooms with period furniture and etchings. Then there is the Petit Moulin, a charming little house often chosen by the bride and groom after their wedding feast. “On my very first visit, I immediately saw a site for weddings, parties, and relaxation,” says Marine, a former event organizer for Parisian palaces. She opens her doors to travelers and families in search of calm as well as for yoga retreats. The property extends over 60 acres, but the real treasure remains the 12th-century abbey itself. Today empty, Marine dreams of turning it into a luxury hotel and returning it to its former glory.
