La Monaco du Nord, a bookstore and newspaper shop, has been writing a new story since spring 2024. Philippe Thorel, its new owner, is championing the rejuvenation of this beloved store dedicated to newspapers, books, culture, and souvenirs. “I always loved to read. I love magazines and the ambiance of newspaper shops,” he says. “To run this place was my dream as a teenager,” a dream that has finally come true. He began by adding more titles, hosting book signings, and continuing to offer more than 4500 different magazines. Philippe is also building out the stationery department with the goal of offering the best art supplies in the city center. These upgrades come with new lighting, reorganized aisles, and immaculate shelves. He also owes his success to the expertise of his two colleagues, Maryse and Émilie. La Monaco du Nord has renewed its role as a must-see in Granville, where readers feel at home among a constant stream of visitors every day from opening to closing.
