In 2021, at 27 years old, Victoire Fontaine left the luxury industry for a more poetic life. After stints in visual production at Chanel and Louis Vuitton, the sea called her back to a time spent vacationing in Coudeville as a child. That was the inspiration behind Écaille Atelier, where she creates upcycled knives, ceramic dishware, and baskets made from oyster shells. “My father, a diehard DIYer, designed the first knife with an old blade and a bit of driftwood.” Victoire is devoted to giving objects a second life: “Creating new things when we’re already drowning in ‘stuff’? Not for me.” Her work is already a hit with restauranteurs who admire her approach and creativity. She even paints seashell frescos for Michelin-starred restaurants and hotels in Paris and Coudeville. In addition to her e-shop, Victoire will open her boutique-atelier this year in La Haye-Pesnel.
