In Beaumont-en-Auge, Rémy Baillieul traded stars for an “idea shop” where each object tells a story. Rémy had long managed Michelin- starred restaurants until an accident forced him to take a step back and slow down. Instead of giving up, he reinvented. At Maison 13, he blends décor, culinary art, fine foods, and everyday objects, all chosen for their history. “I didn’t want to open a simple décor shop or a concept store. I wanted to create a place of curiosity and encounters,” he says. Whether it’s a plate in enameled stoneware, a linen tablecloth, a basket, a pot of rare honey, a bar of olive oil soap, a candle, or even a box of designer matches, nothing is there by chance. “I operate on impulse, like this couple who launched their herbal teas after falling on hard times, or this exceptional olive oil, with 36 awards.” At Maison 13, emotions are worth more than consumerism.
