Carine Guilbert gives new life to forgotten furniture thanks to a rare technique called yakisugi, or burnt timber. “I source pieces whose style speaks to me, but which have lost their shine. After cleaning and sanding them, I partially burn them with a blowtorch. The process reveals the grain and imperfections without erasing their history.” Inspired by Japan, Carine also makes refillable leather notebooks and takes photos of natural materials, moments in time, and the serenity of Japan. “My furniture is appreciated for its modernity, the elegance of the black, and the contrast of the wood. As far as I know, nobody else works like this on old furniture.” Discover this singular aesthetic in her showroom in Dinard.
