Le Train Marin
Departing from Cherrueix, Le Train Marin is taking passengers for a unique ride in the Mont Saint-Michel Bay between fishing grounds, mussel farming, and ever-changing landscapes. Created in 1997 by Philippe Renard, Le Train Marin is now operated by his niece, Annabelle Neau. The “train” is a farm tractor towing two modified trailers that can take up to fifty passen- gers. For about two hours, the convoy glides across the foreshore, up to five kilometers out at low tide. It makes stops so you can get a close-up look at the mussel beds and surrounding landscape. Throughout, Annabelle gives live commentary: “We look at the mussels on the posts, the fishing techniques, the fishing grounds, and everything that lives in the bay.” One of the highlights is gathering the day’s catch in a wooden cage where fish and shellfish are trapped as the tide goes out. The tour also teaches visitors about how climate change is slowly but surely upsetting the balance of this marine environment.
